Santa’s Furry Elves

Every year around Christmas time, Melville Cares’ Volunteer Coordinator, Avril, transform’s her two pooches Sonny and Amber into Elves or Santas to rein in the festive period and spread a smile. This year,  the dogs were dressed up as Christmas elves, sporting adorable red and green jingly collars.

Avril visited several nursing homes around the local area and shared the Christmas spirit with the Community Visitors Scheme residents and other residents who have a love for dogs. The furry pooches never fail in putting everyone in the jolly festive spirit as they are always very accepting and eager for a big hug off anyone who shows them some attention!

“The faces of the residents and staff when they saw Sonny and Amber dressed up and jingling bells down the corridors were priceless and a gift in itself,” said Avril. “It is wonderful that all the nursing homes are open to having an animal visit.”

The residents then recounted stories of their own pets and spoke about all the traits they loved about them. It is true when they say that canines really are a man’s best friend (and make for some pretty cute Christmas card photos!) Sonny and Amber the furry elves are now getting some well deserved rest in preparation for their next Christmas venture in December!
